Unless it's a really, really, really small special run that was never a catalog item, it sounds like one of the following:

If it has a round stainless medallion inset into the right side of the buttstock, with a Cougar perched on top of a rock, it would be a Hawken Cougar.

If there's no medallion, it could be a 'Siler Elite' who's stainless barrel has been swapped out with a blued one, etc...(that's probably a stretch).

But to my knowledge, the only Hawken variants that were in the catalogs, that had stainless dull pewter looking furniture were the Cougar and Silver Elite.

Cougar has the medallion and a blued barrel;
Elite has no medallion and a stainless barrel;

you know, if i had it sitting here i would check it.  but because of the divorce,  it is tucked away somewhere else right now.  i know it has a medallon in the stock,  but i'll be if i can remember what it said on it.  give me a couple of hours and i will make a phone call and find out.

If it has a medallion on the stock, then it's a Cougar...I've never heard of any other Hawken variant that was made with a medallion.

Hawken variants either have a patchbox or have no patchbox...the Cougar is the only exception I'm aware of that is a different configuration but has a medallion.

And another aspect of the Cougars is that they were made with a presentation grade of wood...better figure, etc...I have some Cougars myself.

No, as a matter of fact they don't...and I also just remembered that the Cougar barrels have the word Cougar stampoed into them as well.

And as I mentioned before, there's always the chance that the barrel on it right now is not the original one...the medallion is the key...you need to look at it closely and see what it is

i called where i have it stored.  there is no medallion on it.  i thought there was.  evidently there isnt.  but it does have a killer stock on it and the parts on it are stainless, except the barrel, which is blue

Well, that's interesting...and while I'd bet no bigger fan of the TC Hawken model and it's variants exists than me, I have to say that some TC staff have made quick replies in the past that have actually turned out to be incorrect...and I believe this is another one.

I have all the old TC catelogs from the late 70's, and I have personally held a Silver Elite...and as I mentioned in one of my first replies to your post, the Silver Elite had a stainless barrel, not a blued one as you said yours did, therefore I mentioned it would not have been a Silver Elite.

They both have presentation grade wood, stainless furniture, and stainless locks of course, with the only differences between a Cougar and a Silver Elite being that the Elite has no medallion in the stock, and the barrel is "silver"(stainless)...hence the name "Silver Elite"...that was the whole basis for calling it something different than a Cougar.

My .02 cents... :wink:

see, i saw a picture of the silver elite a few years back.  saw one for sale once too, and both had the stainless barrel you speak of.  it looked sharp.  this one looks good,  but it is definately the original barrel.   to me it looks more like the cougars i have seen than the silver elites.    i will get some pictures of it next time i am over there and post them up.  that should help.

And the original stainless barrel might have been replaced with a regluar blued barrel for various reasons;

Or, it could have been a Cougar and the stock got a split, and TC replaced the stock under lifetime warranty but by the time it happend had no medallion Cougar stocks left, and gave the person a free Silver Elite stock (without medallion);

I'd be interested in seeing what's stamped into the barrel...Hawken, Cougar, Silver Elite, etc
