Is it worth stocking up on Spanish 9mm largo ammo while its still available? Is it any good?

D_MAN - depends on how old it is and who made it. Most surplus 9mm Largo is probably as old as we are and is not the most reliable. It may also be corrosive. You can probably get new CCI stuff for not much more and that is non-corrosive. Mikey.

Mikey: I found newer spanish 9mm largo for $4.50 a box od 25rds. It looks similair to the older 9mm largo spanish stuff(same box) only newer wrapper.

D_MAN: glad you found something newer. The last batch of surplus stuff I bought was almost s old as I am. It all shot, but the accuracy wasn't great. Then again, the old Destroyer Carbine I shot it from isn't all that accurate either so who knows. The stuff you have should shoot ok in your pistol. It's a bit hotter than 9mm ball, somewhere around current 38 Super or a bit less, but it's fun stuff to go blastin' with. Mikey.

I think Fiocchi makes it also.
The 9 mm largo would be an excellent self
defense round with a good hollow point bullet.
Most of my experience with it is from a Destroyer
also that belongs to a friend of mine. Slightly oversized
hard lead alloy bullets shoot quite well from it. you might want to try that Mikey.

Sam - thanks! I have used 9mm cast slugs with that Destroyer and didn't get any better performance than with 9mm jacketed. I would normally use .356 diameter cast in that but wonder if 358s wouldn't work better. Do you have any experience with using a .358 slug in the Destroyer???

But what weight slug have you shot in that little carbine that shoots best. I would love plinkin' with something in the vicinity of 158 gns and my older Lyman manual shows a 9mm accuracy load using 158 gn rn bullet at about 870'/sec but I don't know if that would shoot well in the Destroyer or if the Destroyer has the same 1:10 twist of the 9x19. Ah well................... Mikey.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Starline makes brass (and they seem to specialize in speciality brass like this), and besides that all the rest of the components and equipment are the same as 9mm Luger.

Worse comes to worse you could order a case length gauge from Lee and cut down something else like .223.

Unfortuneatly I've misplaced my Star in 9mm Largo. I'm hoping I didn't leave it at the range.
