I've had no issues with my earlier generation P220 American. I did manage to smooth the serrations out of the trigger, though.
Somehow, certain events arranged themselves so that now I'm the owner of a P220 SAS DAK, a P220R DAK ( that I had converted from DA/SA), a P220R Carry Elite (stainless all steel) DA/SA and a P220 Compact DAK.
I've come to prefer the shorter barreled Carry versions, as well as the DAK trigger.
They all work fine, although initially, one of them (I think the P220R) had some issues, very early on, with last rd. feeding--failure to go all the way into battery a couple of times. This cleared up after shooting the gun a couple hundred rounds. Others on different forums have reported similar issues and some have sent their guns back to SIG. Seems like a different extractor did the trick. Others, like me, just shot it and things cleared up, and some had no issues at all--like me with 3 out of 4 of the one piece slide versions.
The all steel Elite is great to shoot, and I like the SRT trigger quite well. I'ts not as nice to carry with the steel frame--but not a problem if carried occasionally. The heavier weight dampens recoil, along with the SRT, and I'm very impressed at how fast one can put rds. on target. The standard frame carry version aren't bad either.
I haven't yet fired that standard P220 stainless one piece slide version, but have no doubt that I'd be impressed.
I also like the Beavertail on both the Elite and the Compact.
I still like the P229, but for about a year now, I somehow always find myself packing one of the P220 Carry versions. Sometimes, for better concealment, I carry the Compact.--six rds. with 8 rds. mag's for backup. I've swithced to short triggers on the DAK, and std. trigger on the DA/SA.
NOTE: My pistols handle 200 gr. SWC's just fine, but the newest of the 8 rd. stainless mag's do not. They hang up unless you load them up with 3 to 5 rds.
