Who has a 25-06 and what kind of luck have you had with it?

I know some of the different calibers are a little finichky and haven't read much about this one on here.

I shoot one with the Choate varmint stock, an Outers 9-13" 'pod, and a Swift 6-18x44 scope on Leupold vertical-slpit rings.

Load used is 51 grains IMR 4064, CCI 200, Win brass, all behind a Hornady 75g V-max. Gives me 3800fps give or take a few.

As far as accuracy, this combo gives me groups in the .7s or .8s cold and before fouling, and closer to .6s when warm and fouled.

And Ill tell you, this combo will keep right up with my newly aquired 204 and beat it at longer ranges for trajectory. But I love the CZ to death :D

I got one of the new extractor barrels...and haven't started shooting it yet..I've had so much going on with my Mother this past week I couldn't even think about it..but......Lord Willing...I'll be shooting this Saturday...Along with my new 280 barrel as well...

My 2 previous 25-06 ejectors were both moa or less with a number of handloads and factory ammo..and the only bullets either of them didn't like were the blue coated Barnes bullets..factory or handloads..my last barrel was stolen in the mail on it's way to become a 270 Win ...and the one before that became my 338-06...

I hoping this one does as well....I have a good range of bullet weights to try with this one..from 85 grain CT BT's to the 125 grain ULD RBBT's of Wildcat bullets..

:D I owened an Ultra and like a knot head I sold it. The most accurate rifle I have ever owned or shot in my 40+ years of hunting. My 223 Fluted and an old Rem 788 243 are just as accurate, but boy thay rifle was slick. It would shoot sub MOA hot or cold. My best group was 3 shots under 3/8" with factory ammo. Plus my trigger broke at 3 pounds. Great rilfe Stupid owner. Get one you'll be glad you did. In fact my next rifle willbe an Uktra 25-06 with a Weaver K6 on top.  Jess

I have come to consider the 25-06 one of the ideal antelope and mule deer calibers for Montana. I've used my Ultra 25-06 extensively for the last several years. It will hold Federal 117 gr factory or 117 gr Sierra handloads three round groups under .5 " @ 100 yds. While I have owned 25-06s from Ruger, Remington and Tikka, my Ultra will group best.

The 25-06 is one of the great ones. I have taken Game & Varmits with various 25-06 guns for many years. The round has never failed or come close to failing. I think it & other fast 25's are as good as you can get for Speed Goats. It is great for White Tail & Mule Deer. Most of my experience with this round has been with bolt guns, but I am going to see what my son's Ultra will do with various loads this summer. It's Mac's fault!

tannose...the 25-06 and the 280's comes with extractors now..not ejectors..no more shooting the empties out the back end when you open it..now it just pushes  them out a-bit..

Is this something new i ordered a 25/06 handi rifle at gander mountain it came in 2 weeks ago i should be able to pick it up on tuesday should this rifle extract only? I hope so because i was talking to a friend of mine the other day who's a gunsmith about fixing the handi to extract only , its so much eaiser then looking for or tring to catch the empty brass.

You may get one..you may not..if Gander had them on their shelves it might be one of the last ejector barrels or could be one of the new extractors..If it is a ejector barrel and you really want a extractor barrel...PM me..maybe we can make arraingments for me to buy yours and send your reciever back in for a brand new extractor barrel..?????

tanoose old buddy, I hope you get an ejector barrel!!! You can and should then sell it to Mac and send your reciever in for one of the extractor barrels, if thats what you want. It would be a shame to change one of the last nice ejector barrels into an extract only barrel. There will be many of the extract only barrels in the future but the ejector models, unfortunately  :( , will be hard to find (and at a premium, especially for hunters). As I earlier said in this thread, it's easy to convert an ejector barrel to an extractor barrel, but you cannot change and extractor only barrel into an ejector barrel  :(  :( .....<><.... :(  :(  :(

Thanks alot guys i will be using it alot for hunting  , its something to think about though . Gander did not have them in stock it took them a couple of weeks to get them. I'll kniw for sure next week. Thanks again

If Gander's supplier is Sports South, they don't have any .25-06 Handis in stock, but they do have the Ultra Hunter.

I gave a call to my friend who works there he bought one also  he checked them both out and they are both extraction  models. These are both handi rifles not the ultra. thanks again  Tanoose

One quick question about these new extraction only models , does this now mean that we can load up some higher pressure loads  without the worry of stuck cases.? Is the extractor  NEF's Fix to the stuck case problem so many have had ,  if so that opens the door to use of military surplus ammo and maybe some high energy ammo.I am wondering if the extractor has a much beefer spring then the ejector could ever have. Or maybe i am way off hear and someone can tell me why they made the change.
