I assume this will not work but I just wanted to ask.

44 barrel in 445

There is no difference what so ever between a 44 mag barrel and 445 SuperMag barrel.

There is a difference in the barrel shroud.  The caliber is marked on the shroud, don't know why since they have some interchangability, it'd make more sense to mark the caliber on the frame.  Markings aside, there are two shrouds, large frame and SuperMag frame.  The only difference is the length of the ejector rod slot.  The SuperMag shroud will work on the large frame but no vice versa as the SuperMag ejector rod is too long to go into the large frame slot.

I have a 7445 that I put a 44 mag barrel and shroud on.  I did have to lengthen the ejection rod slot in the shroud.  This was a 20 min job in a mill.

How about two more questions on this subject,

I had heard all large frame and supermag shrouds can be interchanged of course with the ejector rod problem putting a regular shroud on a supermag. Is this true?

Due all the large frame guns use the same barrel nut?

Anyone with more than one ever try to swap or will you get them out and look.

I don't have a 357 Super mag, but I believe it is true.   My Dad has a 357 mag that wears a 38 Spl shroud.  I bought a 357 mag shroud mounted a scope on it and put it on my 32 H & R mag.  I would say the medium barrels/shround are interchangable so why wouldn't the large frame stuff be the same way. :-)

Barrels, shrouds, etc.

All large frame and SuperMag frame DWs use the same barrel nut.

All Supermag shrouds will fit all SuperMag or large frame revolvers, regardless of markings.

All large frame shrouds will fit all large frame revolvers, regardless of markings.

All SuperMag and large frame barrel tubes are identical caliber for caliber.

The essential difference is that each caliber of barrel tube has its own rear thread to prevent mismatching the tube caliber and frame caliber.

Ok I WANT to believe that all the barrel nuts on large frames are the same.  Its so easy to find .44 stuff but .41 is hard to come up with. Here's what DW told me yesterday.

The .41 mag and the .44 mag require two different wrenches.  They come as a kit.  The kit includes the barrel wrench, feeler gauge, and the allen wrenches.  The cost per kit is $32.00.  We accept MasterCard, Visa, and money orders payable to CZ-USA.

So they are saying that the nuts are different! Are they trying to sell me an extra tool or am I missing something?

This is just a guess on my part, but the 44 wrench I have has a post in the center. This post I don't believe would fit in your .41 barrel. The barrel diameter could still be the same though. I purchased one of the kits from them and it cost me $32 + $3 S&H. I did notice the allen wrenches seem to be the same as the ones from my 357 too.

Hope I helped.

Barrel nuts and wrenches

All large frame and SuperMag frame DWs have the same barrel nut.

The only difference in the barrel wrenchs is that the center post corresponds to the caliber and keeps the wrench centered.  You can use a smaller caliber wrench (provided its for a large or SuperMag frame) on a larger caliber barrel, but you have to be careful to keep it centered so you don't mar the finish.

The medium size frame has a different nut and wrench size, I'd assume the 357 Mag shroud and nut is the same as the 22.

In the case of my 22, I acquired it sans wrench and had a friend who was a machinist whittle one out for me.
