6.5x55 swedish mauser, set up as a scout rifle, with 2-7 burris scout scope. shooting 140 grain nosler partitions. it hits for me better than most rifles i have! its light weight, and has a smooth action, and nice light trigger.
those 140 grainers are rough on deer and hogs!

Go To Rifle
« Reply #31 on: February 14, 2006, 10:50:34 AM »
My Go To rifle is a Century Arms Centurian converted P-14 Enfield in 7  MM Mag.  It has a 4.14x50 Burris Balisticsplex mounted on it.  It will shoot a one hole three shot group at 100 yds if I do my part using handloaded 160 grain Accubonds.  It is my favorite rifle because I have confidence in what I can do with it and have used it a lot.  It is only one rifle in my dozen or so battery.
Take care and keep you powder dry.  :D

Remington 788 in 308 w/ Leupy 3x9.  Have other rifles but none feel this good.  Go with what feels right.

If I could only have one and concievably use it to feed myself it would have to be Savage 110 in 338-06 caliber. I can hit what I want when I want to. It has all the power I would need for critters I'll ever come in contact with and in a pinch I can use it on bigger toothed game as well.

Go to gun
« Reply #35 on: February 16, 2006, 04:50:11 PM »
In my younger days this would have been a tough decision, however since marriage and children I have but one rifle so it is THE go to gun for me.   A Rifles Inc. 700 Remington 6.5x55.  A Christmas pesent from my wife, she's THE best.  And yes I wouldn't trade it for anything!

I'll be the odd man out and grab my Marlin 336C in 35 Remington, with a 4X scope in a Scout Mount.  I don't need a gun for long range, 125 yards is a long shot for me, where I hunt.  It's got all the power I need for deer and hogs, shoots like it's laser-guided, and will put three Speer 180's into the same hole if I do my part.  If I can see it, and want to shoot it, it's dead right there.

My M700 LSS 338RUM witha Leupold VXIII 2.5x8 is my go to rifle.
If I do my part, it will shoot Nosler bullets under .5" at 100 yds.
I know it is more gum than needed, but every animal I have shot has been a bang flop kill.

No offense, but I'm surprised most of them weren't bang splash kills, splash being the stage after splat.
For instance, a ant falls of a building, it floats.
A mouse falls off, it bounces.
A monkey falls off, it snaps.
A human falls off, they splat.
An elephant falls off........it splashes.
I think you see my point.

Have to say 30-06 Handi Rifle.  During the Moose season I often carry a .338Win Mag, or a .35 Whelen.  During the spring Bear hunts I usually carry a .35 Whelen or a 350 Rem Mag.  But when just going out for exploring, fishing, scouting, or just for a walk, I take the Handi.  It fits on the handlebars of my motorcycle, 4-wheeler, and snow machine well.  It also is handi on the raft, or in the boat.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

I had an Arisaka Carbine in 6.5-.257 that was my favorite until my oldest grandson took it for his graduation present. Now I guess it's my .260.  :D
