Browning BPCRs pricing trends & info
« on: April 20, 2006, 06:54:39 AM »
Just thought I pass along some recent trends and info on the prices of Browning BPCRs.
-------------------------------------------
BROWNING BPCRS .40-65 & .45-70:  Total Production: approximately 2,500 in .45-70 Gov. & a little over 1,300 in .40-65 Win.  Only manufactured during 1996, 1997, & 1998 (no matter what anyone else tries to tell you)

2/21/06 .45-70 new but no box sold for $1,595 on Auction Arms.
4/17/06 .45-70 with exceptional wood sold for $2075 on GunBroker.
4/17/06 .45-70 with nice wood, no box or papers currently at $1725 (See update posted later)
4/17/06 .40-65 NIB listed on GunsAmerica for $1800.  Included are Lyman reloading dies and RCBS trim die plus some brass.
------------------------------------------------

BROWNING .45-90 CREEDMOOR BPCR: (The real Browning Creedmoor with the 34" barrel).  Total Production: Exactly 330 rifles.  All manufactured in late 1998, of which 16 USA/Canadian rifles were shipped with a fixed front sight, and 30 were made for the European market.

2002 - Know of two NIB rifles that sold for $2000 & $2200 (with box)
2004 - Have records of two that sold for $2300 & $2500 (with box)
2005 - I sold a slightly used but like new rifle (no box) for $2500.  Know of another that sold for $2700 (with box).  Heard of one that went for $3000 but could not confirm the details.
2006 - Have data on one that sold for $2999 (with box).  I believe the buyer later defaulted on the sale.  The rifle was sold, then resold for $2400.

So, based on the above, I'd put the value of an average NIB Creedmoor (including sights and boxes) at $2700.  The rifle box & all original literature shipped with the rifle are worth around $200 in like new condition. One with better-than-average wood would be more.  One with a very low serial number much more.   And one of the 16 rifle shipped from the factory with the fixed front sight much, much more.  By the way, if someone tries to sell you one of these 16 rifles, contact me and I'll help you confirm/authenticate it.  It's easy to change out the front sight of a "standard" Creedmoor and claim it is one of the 16.
===========================

You know, it just dawned on me, if I continue to release data on the Browning's, no one is going to buy one of my books, if I ever get it finished and published. :grin:   Currently up 110 pages (8&1/2" X 11") with more to go.  Should turn out to be around a 200 page book.  But in this case quantity doesn't necessarily equate to quality.  I'm gonna hafta retire from my current job so's I can find sufficient time to finish it.

TexasMac Those Auction pricses for some reason always seem to be pretty high.  As a comparison, April 1&2, 2006  I was recently at the big (like 3600 tables) Tulsa Gun Show.  I saw at least 3 Browning BPCR's for sale.  All were priced in the $1350 to 1400 range, and they were all 45-70, very nice condition, with nice wood .  No boxes or papers.  I know for certain that these rifles could have been purchased for less.  And at the same show last  Fall one went for $1000 in excellent condition.  There have been several purchased in the $1250 range, I know because I own a number of them.  I suspose the price trend in these guns dependes where you are at and how bad you want one, but I'd shop awhile longer rather than pay $1700-2000 for one.       Best regards steve witt
