Author Topic: Is it OK .... to crimp in cast bullets lubed groove ?? (Read 418 times)

Gday friends .....Is there any problems with putting light crimp on my cases where one of the three lube grooves are at the top portion of my hard cast lead bullets ....??? otherwise my round ends up under the MIN.OAL when loaded......these are 190gr.hard cast lead bullets for my 38SW ......with the crimp placed in the upper lube groove the OAL is perfect .... at... 1.200" ..........sorry if this sounds like a lame question ...but i dont want to make any mistakes .......thanx ...davey

Think of it this way, can you deform the bullet by applying a crimp? If so don't do it.
do you need to crimp the bullet at all? only if you need to build enough pressure to burn the powder you have chosen.
In most cases crimping a cast bullet is wasted effort. Neck tension is a greater control variable. use of an M die is the best plan, custom modification to get the correct tension is where art meets practicality and results. JB

If the overall length is correct, I suspect you are using the crimp groove instead of a lube groove. Either way, it won't hurt a thing.
