My father has a 22 short, that has a pull safety at the back of the bolt! (you could call it cocking the rifle) when you slap the side of the gun it'll go off(making it unsafe) NO at present I do not know the brand name or much as I have not seen this rifle since I was about 15 yrs old (near 40 yrs) I know it is still in his closet, but would like to know if anybody has an Idea of what I am talking about and/or knows anything about this type of safety?

Winchester made several rifles that used the cocking piece in the safety scheme. the M60m the M69(not the M69A) and others. The M67 used a sleeve that was rotated to hold back the striker. The M60's striker was pulled to the rear then turned to either put it on safe or remove the safety. The are great old rifles and can likely be fixed.. There were other makers such as Marlin that made actions that were pulled to the rear to cock them..some had safeties, some did not..

we have a stevens shotgun that will do that... cock it, smack the bolt in, boom!  little bit dangerous.
