Neck sizing for the Contender

Does anybody out there have an opinion on the pros and cons of neck sizing for the Contender.  I've been thinking of trying it for my 22 Hornet.
If I can make it go bang it can't be that hard to do.

I'd try it and see how well it works for you in the Contender. I see no reason why it would pose a problem.

I actually tried it in mine with the 45 Colt cartridge, believe it or not... I sized the previously fired cases only as far as the bullet would go into the case. These loads would not chamber in my Ruger Bisley, but worked very well in the Contender.

I routinely neck size only for my Contender and Encore and it works fine in general.  For .222 Remington and .357 Herrett in my Contender I don't ever full length size.  I generally full length size all straight wall cases in carbide dies so minimal lube is needed.

In my .30/06 Encore, I find the chambering slightly difficult if I don't full length size occasionally.  They would be usable without full length sizing but for hunting, I want a round that will positively chamber easily every time.  The .30/06 round is the only one I've found this true of and I load for a number of different Encore chamberings.

I necksize only for my 223 and 35 Rem Contender BBls. I had a few misfires with the 35 Rem that disappeared when I started neck sizing only. I really like the Lee Collet Dies for all my necksizing. I also necksize only for the 6MM in my Ruger 77, and 223 and 308 in my Encore. Wish I could only find a way to necksize my 209x50

I neck size my 22 Hornet Brass for the Contender.  Also neck size 223 & 30-30 for the Contender and 25-05 for the Encore.  Never had any problems.

I partially size or neck size for every one of my contender barrels.  Brass is sized only enough to give me a firm closure of the action.  Bullets are seated about .010 from the lands.  I have found that the .22 hornet is one exception.  Partial resizing of this brass does not alway = optimum accuracy.  You will have to try in your barrel.  My sizing die just bumps the shoulder on mine.  Only made about 1" difference at 100, but 1.5" group is better than 2.5".

I use the neck sizing Lee collet dies for .223 (Contender) .243, and 220 Swift. I find they shrink the groups a bit and I seldom have to trim brass.
