Ramrod troubles

The Green Mountain IBS barrel I bought a couple of years ago has been a very accurate barrel.  While at the range this weekend, the groups opened up a bit the problem being caused by the rear sight loosening.....some blue locktite and that problem is taken care of.

While cleaning, the brass insert, on the bottom of the aluminum ramrod, pulls loose after swabbing the barrel in boiling water.  This leaves the jag and cleaning patch stuck in the barrel and 150lbs of compressed air blows it out easily enough but this is frustrating to me.  I've glued it back several times with different glues but nothing seems to hold.  This time I used hot glue that is used to put inserts into arrows.  

I haven't had any trouble with the ball end, or top end of the ramrod but for what ever reason I seem to forget and screw the jag into the bottom end.

I sent Green Mountain an email yesterday asking what they consider to be the "proper" way to fix this problem but have gotten no response.  I was thinking of drilling a couple of small holes in it and pinning it with a couple of roll pins but I'm not sure if this will hold up well in aluminum.

Any of you other fellows had this problem?  

I might buy a different ramrod for this barrel if I can't keep it togather.  Who makes a good ramrod that would work with my TC Renegade and 32" GM barrel?

You could just sand down that jag a little so that the OD is smaller. Or use thinner patches. I just use a brush and mop, and only use the jag to do a final drying and lube.

I drill mine and pin with a small finishing nail.

     This is not an unusual problem.  It seems that at some time they will come unfastened one way or the other.  Generally when you need them the most methinks.  I do the same thing that the others have advised you but I do both............pin and glue.  kinda figure if one dont work the other will...........stay safe....King

I use Epoxy first, then I pin with brass. That should cure your problem, I haven't had any come loose yet. Clean both parts first with denatured alcohol and then Epoxy. Let it cure and then drill your hole for pin, I Epoxy it in also.

I used Gorilla Glue on ramrod ends on a kit rifle and haven't had any problem [so far] I use a range rod 99% of the time so there has never been a real test of the glue....Jim

Sounds like you're referring to one of those black hollow aluminum rods actually made by GM for Knight.

An excellent alternative is to get one of TCs solid aluminum "rugged rod" range rods...they are also a black color, strong as an ox...and being one piece, there's no ends to pull loose.

One end is threaded 10/32" as normal...the other end has a rubber palm saver on it...pry the rubber palm saver off, measure/mark the length you need for the rod to be, and cut off the excess from the palm saver end.

Then just drill/tap a half inch deep hole 10/32" and you'll be good to go...most hardware stores have the various taps on pegboard, and they have the correct size drill bit included in the blister pac with the tap.
