getting started in meteorite hunting

What is really needed to just test the waters and see what is out there.  I watched a show recently on pbs and they were finding some pretty impressive stuff not all that far from me.  Lots and lots of cultivated fields and hay land around that should have something laying out there in it.

First go to the library and get a book on meteorites or do a Google search. Then get a metal detector, I use a Bounty Hunter Quickdraw II. You will only be able to detect those that contain metallic elements. I have found a few while looking for gold nuggets. ;)
