Taurus 24/7 Trigger Problem
« on: May 25, 2009, 08:29:32 AM »
Hello...

My first post is about a problem I think I have with my 24/7.  My pistol is a single action with the "second strike" double action capability.  All of a sudden it has developed what I think is a hitch in the trigger pull.  I have emailed Taurus but wanted to check into this forum to see if anyone else has had the problem.

I have not fired the pistol very much, but when I took it down and dry fired it today I noticed that when I first squeeze the trigger I get an audible click, which disturbs the sight picture and then when I squeeze some more the hammer drops. The trigger pull, which has been a little gritty from the start, still is and the weight has not changed. The gun will fire, it's just this very annoying click before it does. I field stripped it, but found nothing amiss that I could see. Double action works just fine.

Last fall I took it hunting. On the way out in the morning the paddle holster I was carrying it in slipped out of my pants and the whole rig landed on the driveway. The rear sight was knocked out of place and buggered up a bit and the right rear edge of the slide has a small nick. Otherwise it seems OK. I am not at all sure that this problem came from that incident.

Has anyone else noticed this about their 24/7?  I shoot a lot of different firearms and some, like this one, stay in the safe a lot. It may be that the click is normal, but if so then Taurus needs to work on getting rid of it.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Since you aren't getting any action on your question I''ll tell you what little I know. I have a 24/7 that I have put a couple of boxes of ammo thru. It does not have the click you describe. In fact, it has a good trigger although the take-up is pretty long in single action. It has been dropped too. I took a header off the back doorstep trying not to step on my cat that was curled up taking a nap. It was in a nylon holster and landed on concrete but didn't suffer any damage. Good luck on getting it fixed.

Welcome to the forum.

Haven't had a dropped OSS DS Tactical yet, and have not experienced the trigger problem at all.

It could just be the firing pin block dropping out of the way.  44 Man

I called Taurus service today and talked to Leo, a very nice guy.  He has not heard of a problem like this and, since I have not fired the gun all that much, suggested that I shoot a few more boxes of ammo through to break it in.  He may have a point and, if I can find and afford the ammo, I will try that.  If it does not work itself out then I will send it off for inspection and whatever repair it may need. Their service department is pretty backed up right now.  I don't know if that is a good thing or not because it must mean a lot of folks are having a lot of problems with Taurus firearms.  In my life I have had to send guns off for repair exactly twice.  Once to have a firing pin and cylinder hand replaced on a very worn Dan Wesson revolver and once to have a new barrel fitted on an L1A1 to replace one with a bulge in it.  Both of these guns had been shot extensively, while the 24/7 has not.  I will report back after I have "broken in" my gun.

mine makes a little bit of a click  actualy two clicks , it sounds  like plastic on metal clicks. The trigger moves about an 8th of a inch and contacts another part of the triigger ,this makes the first click . you can see this by  looking at the back of the trigger. Then it moves another 8th of a inch for the secound click ,  then  you feel the spring tension as the trigger movesthe other inch before releasing the firing pin.I think it's just slack in the pull  . doesn't seem to effect sitepicture for me  not as much as  the rest of the longtrigger pull.  I realy like my pt24/7 i have bad arthritic hands  and it's  one of the few guns i can work the slide on
