I just picked up some Hoppes bench rest #9 today, I was looking for JB. Hoppes also had a gel copper solvent. I was confused on which would work the best. Any suggestions, or opinions on the BEST bore cleaner on the market. Also something that is barrel safe, I don't want to harm my bore. Thanks for your input.

It depends on what you want to do. I use Shooters Choice mixed with Kroil 75% - 25% for general barrel cleaning. I then use Sweets for Copper removal. I also have started using TM Soloution which does a great job as an all purpose solvent. It not only removes powder fouling but also copper fouling. I don't care much for Barnes bullets but their CR-10 copper remover cleaner is about the most aggressive at getting out the copper of any I've tested. I absolutely use it. Takes it out much faster than any of the Hoppe's products.

I vote for Sweet's 7.62! It's great at copper removal and water based so it helps remove corrosive primer salts..

WipeOut without any doubts!! Used to be a Hoppes lover, used BR for many years, tried Sweets, CR-10, Shooters Choice, then a couple years ago read about WipeOut, tried it, haven't used anything else with the exception of Outers foaming cleaner since. The Outers works about the same and is available at Walmart. Haven't tried the WipeOut accelarator, have read its works even faster with the WipeOut.

Gotta go with Graybeard on this one. CR-10 is the greatest, fastest, easiest stuff I have ever used for copper removal. KN

I've used Sweets for years. There might be something better out there, I don't know, but I have no problems with it and it's plenty fast for me.

One thing I have noticed though. Carbon acts like glue and makes the fouling stick like mad. I didn't much believe the MPro7 folks, but their solvent really does get it out and once it's out, if you condition the bore, fouling is reduced. It's not an agressive cleaner, but it's very thorough. Try cleaning with your regular solvent, then follow up with MPro7 and it will get out all sorts of gunk that your regular solvent missed. Condition to your preference. I use Militec-1 on plinkers and CorrosionX on target guns...don't put Militec-1 in a target gun!

I used to use Sweet's, but since I have been looking at barrels with a borescope I won't use it in my guns any longer. I like Shooter's Choice for cleaning and Wipe Out for copper removal. JB for hard carbon, and I'm going to try the new KG copper removal stuff soon. I watched it eat up a penny at the SHOT show and it's some impressive stuff. And it doesn't have any ammonia in it so you don't end up nitriding your bore.

Well I went with Kroil and Bench Rest #9 used both with brush and patch. I'd say tehy both worked about the same although, Hoppes is easier to tell if I'm getting copper out since the patch turns blue.

Over the years,I have tried several copper removal solutions.I started off with Hoppy's no.9 and then found sweets 7.62 to be better at copper removal but it was to much of a mess.Then I went to Shooter's choice copper remover and stayed with that for years and thought that was pretty good stuff and it is,but then I tried Butch's bore shine and found it to be better yet,and quicker,the only trouble is,I can run patches through the bore for a half hour and a blue patch still comes out,Lately,I've tried the Outer's foaming bore cleaner,leave it in the bore for a half hour,wipe it clean,follow with a couple patches of Butch's bore shine and presto,super clean bore with the least effort and work.I'm thinking that I may have found the right combination,after which,I coat the bore with Shooter's choice FP-10 bore lubricant . While going through a barrel break-in routine,I leave a light coat of FP-10 in the bore for a shot to help burnish the bore.Makes you wonder how our grandpappy's ever got by when all they ever had was plain old Hoppy's or Outer's solvent,least they had more time shooting then cleaning.lol

gorge foster - it sounds like you are a benchrest shooter.
use butch's bore shine tm cleaner, homemade for everyday shooting and sweets 7.62 to get heavily fowled barrels clean.
one thing to watch is to get all of the sweets cleaned out after use. like they pointed out above it is water soluble gel. gets really sticky if left in barrel for long on a hot day.
