I have a Buffalo Classic on the way, and I joined the forum for information.

I think some folks here may know me from the marlin owners and leverguns and beartooth forums.

I plan to use the same loads I use in my other 45/70s, the 460gr Cast Performance and the 525gr BTB PileDriver to start.

I am going to get some of Marshall's 425gr junior pile driver for the longer range load, subject to input from more experienced long range shooters.

Howdy from a Legal American !!

I can't offer any experienced advice on the long range stuff (and there's already lots of the other kind on the 'net), but I can say: Howdy Grizz.  :)

Welcome aboard, Grizz, nice to have you here!! Nice choice of bullets, I've shot the 525s in my .45-70 and 45-120 BCs, waiting on some more from Gayle.

Thanks Guys!

I am looking into rear sight solutions for the longer ranges. I might fabricate one that is a variation of the Swiss sight. Have to wait until I get the gun apart.

Or I might try to make this one work:

It's going to be fun, I just know it!

An easy one is the Smith long range ladder sight, just be sure to get a peep slider for it, part #RS-SE-WIN-FB, $20 at Track.

Thanks Tim,

But I had to replace the ladder on my 1886 with a tang peeper, can't focus the rear sight when it's on the barrel.

Thanks Mac, I'll eventually have pictures, but that's a couple of months away.

Griz, that's what I thought too, been putting the Smith sight off for over a year, but Bernie(Dodd3) shoots his with the peep slider just fine, and he's almost as old as I am!! He's shot out to 800 yds with his, so I bought one, haven't shot it yet, tho, but the sight picture looks fine, the peep slider centers the globe of the .404" 17A sight just perfect with just enough light around it to see it well. Here's a pic of his...
