Cast Bullets and Big Bones

Howdy Veral,
First want to say thank you for the great products. I have been following with interest posts by someone, on another forum about cast bullets hitting large shoulder bones and having them deflect more than he would like, he is therefore switching back to jacketed bullets. Some have said that his velocity was to high and that if he lowered it, his cast bullets would of have had a greater chance to penetrate straight. Other have said that a soft nose hard shank cast bullet might keep going straight after hitting bone. I am shooting  .510cal 547grgc bullets, V=2000fps, from one of your molds with ww, water cooled hardness 18 to 20 BHN. If I was to go after big game would a soft nose  cast bullet be more reliable to penetrate straight after smashing a shoulder or one where the nose is the same hardness as the shank. Plan on doing a lot of testing with wet newspaper. However, I would like to hear your thoughts please.

Thanks Again,
John

Put some big leg bones a couple inches in the wet paper to simulate a real game animal. Do you shoot that gun off hand? That's got to be 40-50 pounds of recoil!

Howdy,
Plan on doing some field testing like that. Still would like to pick some of Verals knowledge. Got a good recoil pad on it, suck up tight and it's not to bad off hand and sitting. Bench work hurts, rifle weigh 10 1/2lbs. empty.

Looks like you might have to worry about the shoulder bones on both ends of that rifle. 2 Receiving ends on that thing!
