Preference Points

I mainly hunt in the Northern Zone (Adirondacks), but I do enjoy southern zone hunting and apply for a doe tag every year.  I used to always get one, if not definitely the next.  I now have been denied for three consecutive years and have three prefernce points!  Anyone out there getting the same?  I do hunt heavily managed areas (5N, 5K).  Do you guys think that I'll finally get one this year?  I do love a nice fat doe for the freezer.  Please let me know your thoughts.

Never heard of someone with preference points NOT getting a DMP. Sounds strange, unless the area you apply in is just so oversubscribed.

Yeah, I hadn't either, but a few of my buddies were not getting a DMP either.  I think that it has to do with the area that I hunt, and the amount of permits.  Hopefully this year!  I surmise my your username that you are from the Gloversville area?

Actually I live in Dutchess County now, but I used to live in Otsego (small town near Cooperstown / Oneonta area). I still spend a lot of time there hunting. I am also a big fan of James Fenimore Cooper's books.

Due to the last 2 sever winters we had and winter "die off" DEC reduced the number of DMP all over the state plus there was a glich w/ decals which gave some WMU's zero chance of getting one - DEC found out about the problem and mailed out some permits for the areas .... plus I read lots of reports of hunters not seeing deer and also not seeing tracks.

As for me this is my 3rd year I haven't received a doe permit...

Hopefully with the mild winter we just had the population will up this comming fall ...

I haven't had any problem with the preference point system. There has been only one year I have not recieved a DMP and that was many moons ago.
I hunt 5H and 6R primarily yet as wel know 5H will not have DMPs ever.
