6.55 Swede?????

:D I keep reading about reboring to another cal using the handi and I just had a wild hair attack. :)  Would a Ultra Varmint in 243 be a good platform for such a conversion and who do you suggest for such a project?
It would make a very nice allround rifle to knock around with. Jess

It does not appear to me that the 6.5x55 reamer would clean up the 243 Winchester chamber. At 1.250 in from web the 243 case is larger then the 6.5 case. But you could do it with any 223 barrel. They also both share the rimless ejector/extractor.

Use  the 223 barrel like Wally said..you'll be ok...as to who could do this for you...http://home.earthlink.net/~oregunsmithing/index.html..He did my 338-06 from a 25-06 barrel..and has done a couple for Quickdtoo...a 338-06..from a 25-06..and a 405 Winchester from a 38-55...I really love mine...and Quick likes his too...and I think Marve had a 25-20 done if I'm not mistaken...He does great conversions...and his cut-rifling gives simply amazing accuracy..A 6-55 sweede would be a great choice

If you have a 243, select a 260 Rem. All 308 type brass can be used. Less back thrust. An all around more modern and better designed 6.5 caliber.

Datil.
Old timer like me, what twist did you get? Man you will have fun with that 25. There is nothing like a 25.

H322 is a good powder for this case and 87gr Hornady bullets 3000ft in a 22" barrel no sweat in a modern rifle like the Handi.

Marv.
If you have in fact a 1-9" twist you should be able to use any 25 cal  bullet weight. But yo need to step them up a bit. Loads for the old leaver guns at 44.2ksi will not do it. The Handi can easy take 57ksi. That is what I load my 257 Roberts at.

What are you using the gun for, I can dig up a load for you with "Quick Load" I am not posting it here. If you want you can send me an e-mail addi.

Marv:

I thought it was a 25 cal...

I have the 3rd edition Hornady manual..it list 2 bullet weights for it...a 60 grain soft point bullet # 2510....and the 117 grain round nose bullet # 2550...if you need the data let me know...you can use it along with Fred's Quickload data and have a couple of sources for loading data for it ...They show it being loaded for a Winchester 1894 with a 20" barrel...:D
