FOLKS,
I was in need of a new powder measure-since I have a Redding Match BR-3 & I've heard nothing but praise for the Harrells I made the move & ordered one. It cost me about $ 60.00 more , but it is all machined & suppossed to be very accurate. ( It hasn't arrived yet !1 )
NOW I just read an article in REALGUNS that states their testing didn't show any improvement over an RCBS measure !!!! If anyone has any feedback GOOD or BAD I would like to hear it. I must admit the Redding has worked pretty well & as I don't load max maybe I just wasted a few extra bucks !!!! The claim to fame seems to be the ability to go back to any load without checking the scale ,once you have recorded this info .
Does anyone use / have this measure & how do you like it ?

Hey Soup will a $3000 dollar rifle in 30-06 shoot a bullet any faster than a $300 dollar rifle in the same cartridge? Just stick your nose in the air and enjoy it!

I assume these are manual powder measures and not electronic ones.

I wouldn't expect a difference for many powders because both are measuring by volume and volume measurements are largely a function of the shape and size of the powder granules. The RCBS measure is a quality product. I've got one and have no complaints. The machining is excellent where it's important that it be excellent.

However, there may be $60 worth of difference. For example the RCBS doesn't come with a micrometer attachment so you can return to a particular setting by dialing it up on the micrometer. It doesn't have a feature to dump back into its container by opening a gate at the bottom of the measure. The lid on the RCBS seems to come off very easily, although I think they may have fixed that. Some kinds of powder, like bullseye, seems to have a static affinity for the plastic that the RCBS is made of and it's hard to get good measurements. Ease of adjustment is a huge thing for usability and if this new press is easy to adjust, it will be worth the $60.

If you get the new measure and it looks like a cut above the RCBS in quality, keep it. I would.

This calls for a products review when you get it and have a chance to use it. Then we will all get your opinion of the thing. I am still using my old RCBS I bought back in the seventies. RCBS has replaced the drop tubes. lid and powder canister several times....mostly due to my moving or mishandling.

I've never used the Harrell measure, but I've only heard very good things about it from the guys who do use one. They claim that it's even better than the Redding competition measures. I use a Redding BR-30 competition, and a Redding 10-X competition, and both these measures are 5 times better than any RCBS, LEE, or Lyman measure I've ever used.

Like you said, once I get my micrometer's set for a given charge weight with a powder, I only have to go back to that setting to get perfect drops every time. :grin:

I'd certainly hope it was more accurate.
