I've recently started getting together pieces for a .375 H&H I'm hoping to build up. The heart of this rifle will be an Eddystone P-17 action that I managed to pickup for a decent price. This action has already had the rear bridge ground-down to a Winchester Mod 70 countour, and has been drilled/tapped for a Standard/Redfield/Leupold base (3 holes). I've also got a Millet base that fits it.
Previously I've only used Weaver-style bases and I have been completely satisfied, but as it is I'd need an extra hole drilled in this receiver to use any of the Weaver-style rails. My question is simply: is the Standard-style mounting method strong enough to hold up to the recoil of a .375H&H, or should I get the extra hole drilled and spring for a dual-dovetail or Weaver-style setup?
Thanks.
