Is it safe to re-chamber a Swiss K-31 7.5,55 Swiss to 7.62x51NATO[308Win]?
I've heard mixed reports about this.

You probably can because it has been done in the past, but why would you want to? It will cost you a fortune and you will end up with a 50+ year old gun that still shoots the same .308 cal projectile that you were shooting anyway.
I think it would be money better spent if you just bought a .308 and reloaded for the K31. They certainly will load easily and they shoot quite well as is.
Just my opinion though so keep looking for answers.....

The later models are easily strong enough but the early long actions may not stand the pressure well. The swiss round is quite the 308's equal so why not just reload for it.. There may be some feed difficulties but they can be overcome.. That said I've not done this so am working just from working on the K31's in the past.. As the prior poster pointed out.. they are quite accurate as is..

hans:  got one in the local gunshop - been sittin' there for well over a year.  Folks look a bit 'askew' at it since it's in a different than issue caliber.  And why wouldya wanna do that anywho?  As gunnut said, the 7.5 is quite the equal of the 308 and uses the same bullets.  You can get new 7.5 mm brass from a couple of  places (and ps, it likes the heavier bullets (180s)).  HTH.  Mikey.
