I've never owned the Muck boots, but I do own the Alpha Burleys w/1000 gr thinsulate.

In a nutshell- I love them. I have stood in cold glacier streams for hours and my feet never got cold. They are very comfortable as well. One thing though--ya gotta wear wool socks or at least something that will wick away the moisture, as your feet will sweat. No cotton socks, at least in cold weather anyway.

Funny you should ask, I did a field test of both of those boots for an article I was writing last winter.
Bottom line__________Go for the Burleys!

My wife bought me a pair of LaCrosse boots last season. Most comfortable boots I have ever worn. The 18" height helps when sludging through the swamps around here.

Alhpa Burly: Alaskan Field Tested, Alaskan Approved.

I have had mine for five years up here. Moose hunted, snow machining, bear hunting, in the ocean salt water tidal zones general use. Except for the rubber rim around the top, 100 reliable and very durable.
