Best bullet for 260 rem.
« on: May 06, 2006, 02:36:20 PM »
I've just started loading my own 260 ammo and I'd just like to hear from other hunters using this caliber.  What bullet seems to kill the quickest?  I don't mind tracking, but around here if you don't get your deer fast it's liable to have someone elses tag on it when you do find it.  It's sad that I even have to worry about it, anymore when you find a deer hung up in the woods it's padlocked to the tree it's on.

I don't have a 260 Rem but do use a 6.5-06 and a 6.5x55. I've only used 140 gr Hornady interlock's on game and they work great. Several deer and a couple elk.

This year I'm sticking to the 140 gr in my 6.5x55 because of it's faster twist, that just maybe all in my mind that it'll work better. It shoot's 129 gr Hornady's wonderfully well! Theres not a lot of difference in the 260 and a 6.5x55 in a good modern action except maybe twist rate. If I had a 260 I think I'd try the 129gr bullet's. Nosler makes a 125 gr partition but I wouldn't use it as they cost to much. I think a couple companies also make 130 gr bullet's. Well I'm also a big Hornady fan. Nobody's made a bullet better enough to make me change and Hornady hasn't screwed up enought to make me quit them.

Hi There,

Whilst not a .260 Rem I also use the 6.5x55 Swedish and have had excellent results with the Speer 120 Grain spitzer bullet. As yet I have not got the Hornady 129 Grain Spire Point to shoot as accurately in my rifle. The Speer 140 grain shoots well but I have not used it on deer.
