Thanks Brett!

I like your idea of it being a Treasure Hunting forum. Then it could encompass all the different kinds of treasure searching and not just limit it to metal detecting as there are many different kinds of treasure hunting that do not utilize metal detectors. Great idea!

Black_Wolf,

Glad to be of help.   8)

Where do you conduct most of your metal detecting?

I remember as a kid growing up on Cape Cod I used to love combing the beach for whatever 'treasure' the last tide may have uncovered on the shore or brought in from the sea.   Good luck with your forum.

All over Brett.

I will go to parks, old house yards, old farmsteads, old foundations, the possibilities are endless. I live in one of the very first settled areas by white men in the country. My favorite metal detecting is searching for lost colonial minted coins and colonial coin caches and artifacts from that era. I know guys who will be able to retire from the proceeds of their old coin collections or at last supplement their retirement funds greatly. For me it is not so much the money , but the history. My first colonial coin era find was an 1802 large cent, but what awed me the most was the fact that i was the first person to hold that coin since it was lost by it's owner over two hundred years ago! Thats what fuels me in this hobby is the lost history that i can recover.

Man, if you would have had a Detector in Cape Cod i bet you would have found some really cool stuff! You would not believe the number of treasure ships that went down off the atlantic coast in that area and gold coins and jewlery are still washing up on it's shores today. It just might be a hobby you should think of taking up as it's alot of fun and the only one i can think of that pays you back to do it :)

I voted yes because even though I don't participate in the sport, it keeps plenty of people in shape and lowers the obesity rate (even at a slight amount) :D

I too voted yes.  For one thing, I do have a metal detector.  Second, one of these days I'm hoping to go comb a beach to see what I can find.  But it would interesting to see just how much there is to talk about regarding treasure hunting, as well as discussing finds.  Pics would be a necessity.

Black_Wolf,

I just may get myself a metal detector one of these days.  The area of water around the outer Cape is very treachurous that is one reason why the canal was dug.   A great read is a book called The MoonCussers, sorry I don't recall the author. But it is about the land based pirates who by strategically placing lanterns on the shore to replicate landmarks further inland, would lure inexperienced sea captains onto the shallow shoals on dark moonless nights.  Once the ships ran aground they were quickly pounded to pieces by the surf.  The mooncussers would be first on the scene to help the drowning sailors and of course help themselves to any valuable cargo they could cart off with in the confusion.

Thanks for the vote JPSAXMAN :D

Patriot_1776. You should get out and use that detector. Beaches are very good places but dont over look old inhabited land areas around you. There are silver coins to be found abound. Gold coins too, but they are more difficult to find, but we can get into that later if the forum goes thru. Yes, pictures would be very helpful to take a look at and to identify finds.

Brett: I will have to look into that book as it sounds interesting! There are many documented Pirate escapades up and down the eastern seaboard and many many treasures are thought to still be buried in land still lost to the sands of time. There are also many spanish ships that went down too and their treasures never recovered. Really neat stuff IMO.

Thanks to all for the votes :D

It's at 11 now Patriot. Even so its still doesnt seem like much interest in it right now. I'm thinking of asking Graybeard to hold it up even when it hits 12 and see how high it goes and then starting it up. The poll has no time limit so maybe by mid summer we can take a look and go from there. By then there should be alot more members and hopefully alot more interest in such a forum. Thanks for the support :D

BW,

Not everyone pays attention to these threads. Just because it only has 12 votes doesn't mean it's only been seen by the 12 people plus by those who said no. SO...don't worry. I think it will prosper fine :D

This request has gotten eleven YES votes in only 4 days. Dunno if that's a record or not but it's way faster than nearly every forum that has been added via such a poll. The biggest decision seems to be where the heck does it best fit into the list of forums.
