What does the W stand for?

I have seen on some adds for Dan Wesson revolvers a W before the caliber name.  Does this stand for anything or is it just something some people put there?

I don't think I've ever seen that. I have a revolver that is a model W12. I always figured that the 'W' was for 'Wesson'.

I have a friend at work that worked in the Monson Mass. plant for two years, I will run it by him and see if he knows. Hw tried to give me this dan wesson hat that was the most god awful ugliest thing in the world. It had the 70;s big foam front and the mesh in back. Plus his cat had been laying on it.. ewww..I'll have to pass on that one..

Travis I think it comes from the Smith and Wesson connection S&W. See the History thread. The W stands for Wesson.
