I just re-discovered the first gun, and only gun; that my father got for me for my 10th birthday. Its a Model 24V. It is a great all around varmint/small game gun. It throws a tight pattern of birdshot, not quite to the same point as the .222, but within a foot at 25 yards. Is there any way to get these to shoot closer to the same point of aim??
I found that I was having so much fun with the 24V, that I just bought a 24B that is in near new condition. I didn't want to do a whole bunch of work on the 24V, kind of want to leave it the way it was when Dad bought it....I am thinking about having some work done on the 24B though.
I want to re-chamber it to .30-30 AI for starters. I am also seriously contemplating shortening both barrels to 18.5". I am thinking about this for a variety of reasons. I think that losing 5.5" will turn this into about the ultimate ultra compact combo. Should be light, small, and fast.
I think shortening the barrels might also help both to point to the same spot. Less room for the barrels to flex and move...I'm hoping.
Is there any way to put a screw in choke back into the 20 gauge after shortening it so that I could get the benefit of being able to change the pattern for diferent conditions.
Kind of lond winded...sorry, I am excited though about this project. Any ideas on a smith who could do this. Thanks, Doug
