Hi guys Newby here and wanted to say this is a Great Forum and after lurking for awhile it has proven Very Informative Thanks!!!

Curious if anyone has ever tried mounting a Harris or similiar type folding BiPod on the stud located in the barrel band on a Marlin? I have thought seriously about doing this but don't want to if it will create ill affects? If you have can you post some pics, I Love seeing those customized Levers. Thanks!

i would but the previous owner of my 30AW put a magazine mounted stud, and removed the original.

Are you sure it HAD a stud? My present (1976) Marlin 336 only has a stud on the barrel band because I saw one on a new rifle and ordered the barrel band from Marlin.

The Marlin isn't a long range varmint proposition, so I am not sure why one would want to put a bipod on one. I prefer mine clean when I am stomping in the woods. I even take the sling off and stick it in my pack so it doesn't hang up in the brush. A pair of shooting sticks might be useful if a tree isn't available to brace the rifle against, but again, that is extra "stuff" to carry & get in the way.

My opinion on what works for me. Putting a bipod on yours might be just the cat's meaow for your situation. The only way to find out is to try it!

I know the Marlin's are not the varmint rifle... However I've found in the area I do most of my hunting we lay down right on top of a leve and wait for game to come out, they are usually between 75 to 125 yards away and if we raise up to shoot we have running shots. Those running adrenalin pumped animals go further then those that are relaxed and feeding. With a bipod I'd get the relaxed animal shot as they would never know I was there, when I do stomp brush I've got another rifle for that. :wink: Thanks I may try it as I think bipods make laydown shots easier then what I have been doing to get the shot like that, which is either using a backpack under the gun for the rest or using a varmint rifle. I prefer the marlins though thats why I asked, I'd hate to mess up one of my marlins.

I haven't used a bipod on a Marlin but I saw something the other day when I was in the gun shop that just might be the ticket for what you are doing. It was a nylon rest shaped like a sandbag only much taller and was filled with some kind of bead type material. It was semi rigid but could be adjusted slightly in height by putting pressure on the bag. It weighted next to nothing. If I recall correctly it was a Coldwell brand bag but I could be wrong on that. Anyway, it gives you added stability without having to attach anything to your rifle that will invariably get caught on something at the wrong time.

I agree with Jerry, I have a house full of harris bipods, but my homemade shooting sticks just seems like a good match for my marlin levergun.

If you try installing a Harris bipod on a Marlin lever action rifle, you'll find it doesn't fit very well. On one side of the studded band you have the stock. The other side is the magazine. Both are at different levels and widths. It could be done but it's not a very solid fit.

I prefer to just rest the forarm on an improvised bag, rest, etc.
