Stoeger 20 Ga for the wife!
« on: June 21, 2006, 05:56:45 PM »
Well the little woman has decided that she wants to go hunting this year.
Well since she's $ 1.05 wet my 12 GA guns were out of the question and since she's also a lefty that would mean an O/U or lefty auto. Well money being tight the auto option was out os the question. So I started looking for a reasonably priced O/U.  After looking at all the big guy's an seeing prices of 1200 and up I was getting the feeling I wouldn't be able to fine her a gun. Mossberg has a nice O/U for $500, but no one could get one-8 month backorder!!! This is when I found Stoeger Condor -call the gun shop in Biose -7-14 days to get one in -great do it! Go down to put some cash on it so they'd order one -low a behold I was looking at a rack of guns -a Stoeger 20 ga O/U slapped the cash down, it get paid off here next week!

First Impressions : Nice tight action -wood good -plain finish with Invector chokes, wieght was reasonale. I think the wife will have a very capable firearm.  I'll probably get some shooting done with it to.

I have 2 Benelli's and did own a Browning Citori Lightning and SToeger o/u.  I have to say I am was disapopinted with my Stoeger Condor Supreme. The orange plastic bead on the front of the barrel and the firing pin was misfing. I bought the gun to replace my beat up american arms 20ga with double triggers. I figured I would give that gun to my son and upgrade.  It Did not happen. I traded the Stoeger for a Bennelli Nova Turkey gun and kept my American arms. I am still killing birds with it. The wood to meatl fit is not great, but it's balance is great. My son has sisnce bought  a 12 ga mossberg 535 which he loves. I may look at a 20 citori down the road. I would give the mossberg o/u a harder look or call around. You may get one in quicker with another dealer. Some of my friends have the russian Baikal and they love them, That's just my 2 cents. Take it for what it's worth. I wish you the best of luck

I've heard way too many bad things about the Mossberg to recommend it. A friend bought one and his doubled regularly. This seems quite common from the reports on the internet. If you take a look at the forums on the Stoeger/Bennili site you'll see folks have a LOT of problems with the Stoeger O/Us but there is a fix given in some other posts that seems to turn them into pretty nice shooting guns. From what I've read there the factory doesn't seem able to fix the problem but the fix given is reported to have worked for many.

The CZ imported or Dehaan imported Huglu seems to be the way to go for a low price O/U these days. I think the DeHaan might be the better value.

Well the Stoeger is in the house- It will get a work out soon and I'll report back. Quick look and reassembly, cleanig. Yes it's a $500 dollar gun, plain with good fit and finish. No it's no Browning, or top of the line Beneli. If it goes bang and hits what it's aimed at it will do.

Well I got out and shot the Stoeger- It went bang everytime, good primer contact, it also broke every target it was aimed at! Now  I just got to get used to switching barrels. The Safety /selector was a little ruff-needs to be broken in with use.  Recoil should be within the wifes tolorences definately not as bad as my 12 ga.  The Stoeger is nicely balanced and swings naturally for me -hopely it does for the wife to?
