I bought a new Survivor 45 colt / 410 and I am having a lot of fun with it except the screw in choke. I followed the instructions and only screwed the choke in lightly, as soon as I fire one or two shotshells and want to shoot 45 colt I can't remove the choke with the wrench. I've put shotgun choke anti sieze grease and it still dosen't help, I'm afraid of breaking the choke wrench as I have to insert a screwdriver in the wrench to get enough torque turn it I understande the problem, the choke tightens as the shot goes through the rifleing. I think the factory should have put reverse threads on the choke. Anybody else have this problem and is there a solution? This seems like a serious problem on a survival gun. :?

With left hand threads it would unscrew it's self every shot. Try tightning it a little more, then it will not get slammed into the threads with a running start when you fire a load with a loose choke. Larry

If I understand this right your barrel is rifled, and the choke tube is smooth. The thread on the choke tube is a right thread and so is the rifling. That should not tighten the choke. Since the two threads oppose each other

A 410 shoots best with no chocke using modern shot shells with the plastic wads. What I suggest, ream the choke tube to barrel diameter and shoot bullets through the choke tube.

A machinist can easy ream the choke cylinder bore. No more fuzzing with the choke tube just leave it in place and forget about it.

I am not too sure how a .452 bullet fits in a 410 bore.
How about mesuring that 410 barrel diameter.
I am sure a 410 shot shell will work in a .452 barel but not the other wat around.

If a 410 shot charge is expanded to 452 and then slamed through a full choke .400" choke, nothing good will become of the shot charge, for sure. A spreader load at best.

A 52thou constriction is reserved for a 10 gauge.

Myself I would perhaps take a hacksaw and cut the threded part of the barrel off. That would solve the problem permanently.

The function of the choke tube is to stop the shot shell spinning due to the rifled barrel. Cutting off the choak tube part will let the shot come out spinning and will make for a very wide patern. I think this is one of those things that is not the best of anything, at best you can hope for is some acceptable level of performance for both setups. Larry

I tried tightning the choke as per a sugestion by Trotterlg but this did not help as shooting only made it tighter. I guess i'll have to make somthing to fit over the choke wrench and give more torque. Thanks for the help. RK3006

There is no way in the world that a choke tube will stop a shot charge from spinning in a rifled bore.

The function of a choke is to tighten the shot charge, but not 52 Thou in a 410. A standard 410 shot shell will produce a pattern of about 2ft at 25 yards. with a full choke with about .008 constriction.

I fired 1000nds of 410 shot shells and found that you get a better patterns with pactically no choke. That is with plasic shot cups.

Just try a couple of stot shells without the choke tube and shoot a pattern. Two shots wont foul the threads very much. Easy enough to clean.

What I see is that with the enorous amount of constriction. The shot charge just hammers the choke tube inti the threads. You really need to tighten that choke tube hard and apply a good high pressure grease.
