what are the ups and downs of these electric bore cleaners? will they remove leading, copper fouling ,carbon?

I was thinking about making on of these things myself, there are plans on an electric cleaner on the web. It tells how to make the unit from hardware store supplys and use household cleaning fluids. money is tight right now. I thought this might be worth trying.

I really looked at getting a Foul Out system but just couldn't bring myself to spend the money.    I use Wipe out with the accelerator, easy to use, no smell the wife allows me to lay newspaper out on the kitchen table!  I line up three rifles prep them with the accelerator and spray in the foaming bore cleaner.  I then clean the bolts and wipe down the metal then chill out for another two hours.  A couple of patches though the bore and everything is clean.  Cheap and easy...

I haven't tried the faoming cleaner but the foulout system never fails to remove the last bit of metal fouling.. and no chemical cleaner I've used to this point can say that..

The homemade, battery operated steel rod models do indeed work, but if your bore is terrible, [old surplus mauser like mine] it will take a couple applications!!! good luck.  MV

I made one - total cost was under $10. A 2 cell battery holder, some wire and a couple of aligator clips, a steel rod from Home Depot, a cork to seal the chamber and a small piece of rubber hose to insulate the rod from the muzzle.

I only use it for cleaning the bores on cruddy mil-surps or other used and abused guns as I use straight household cleaning ammonia. Guns that you can spend forever trying to get the copper out of with a brush get cleaned quickly with the homemade unit.

Straight cleaning ammonia is very high in PH (base) so I don't recommended it for frequent use.
