« on: October 28, 2006, 04:46:13 PM »
Anyone know much about this rifle it has only been fired 6 times. Has a 26 " barrel it looks like to me with a 5 round mag.Peep rear with target front sight. Gun smith said it came from the cmp program. They are asking 449.00 for it I told them to hold it for me till this tuesday.Man I tell you what the barrel is a bull barrel with adj front sling. Sure would be tankful for any input.

If it is in good condition, it is probably worth every penny.  I have an early 540X single shot I bought in 1969.  I really like to use it for target and for tree squirrel hunting.  It is more accurate than I am.  About a month after I bought it, I entered a club match, a team competition, and shot 200-7x with it (metallic sights).  It was my first ever small bore competition (a 100 yd prone match).

I'd say it is not equal to an Anschutz 54 match rifle, but it is a very good rifle for what you will have in it.
