First AR purchase - Bushmaster or Rock River
« on: April 15, 2006, 03:03:55 PM »
I have been wanting to get a RRA 16 Mid-length carbine for a while now, but I just saw a Bushmaster M4 for $854 in Academy sports. I would much prefer having the rifle imediately after I purchased it, instead of 2-4 week down the road with the FFA thing. The Bushmaster appears to be their standard M4 contour barrel.

How do these two rifles compare? Which one would be more accurate? If the bushmaster is every bit as accurate as the RRA, I would go ahead and get it.

i have owned two bushmasters and one olympic arms.  i also used the colts in the service.  i havent shot the rock river arms guns.   having said that,  the bushmaster is the best i have shot yet.  they make olympic arms look like junk.  a big difference in quality.

both of the bushmasters are reliable and accurate.  i wouldnt hesitate to get another.   i honestly cant say about rock river.  they might be fine, they might be junk, but i couldnt tell you either way.   maybe someone else can help with that.

I have a colt AR2 and a DPMS flat top.  If you are not going to hump it a field get the DPMS flattop with a bull barrel with an ergonomic grip and case of ammo.  PS put a lot of targets out at 200 to 300 yards.
Be kind to animals.... cook them properly.

I have a Bushy M4A3, with the collapsible stock and a flat top with the carrying handle.  I love this gun and couldn't be happier.  It beats the crap out of all the worn out M4's and M16A2s I used in the Army.  My buddy has a RRA, and is a nice gun that shoots well, too, but I can't tell too much of a difference in quality at all.  I would save the money and save to put an EOTech on my Bushy.  Just sayin'

From what I've heard at gun stores, guns shows, and on gun forums. Armalite and Rock River are probably the 2 best right now.

only Bushmaster and Colt use the right barrel steel that is mil spec. Rockriver uses a lesser grade barrel steel . will you ever be able to tell the differance ,who knows? I belive CMT makes the upper and lower reciever for both ,and maybe the bolt and carrier too. I would buy the Bushmaster just to get the mill spec barrel steel .

I have a RRA AR-15 A2 TASC Rifle with the mid length hand guard. It's been absolutely perfect! My friend has a Bushy and it's been just as good. I don't think you'll go wrong with either!
