Traditions Evolution

I've got a questio or two, I just bought a Traditions Evolution 45 cal with ported barrel. It has a fluted 26 in tube and is stainless, What do you know about the rifle and what scope/load would you develop for Elk ect/ This is a first attempt at BP for me in my 40+ years of hunting and I do mean I'm brand new to the sport. I'll listen to your opinions closely because I never busted a cap on a muzzle loader before.

If you plan on elk with a .45 cal you had better get a load developed with the heaviest bullet that will shoot accurately. Most recommend a .50 cal. for elk. In fact some states will not allow the .45. If you haven't shot it yet take it back and trade for the .50.

+1 what Keith said.  Plus, that ported barrel is going to be a real pain to clean.

I agree with you both. I picked up a non-ported 50 cal Traditions and will stick with it if I like the port then i'll invest in a first class set up. Thanks, Jess
