Finally found some time to get to the range and wring out the #9 Union Hill I recently purchased. Had to sight in guns for this fall, so I hauled it along.
After bore sighting the vernier tang sight, I fired a couple shots at the 200 yd gong. Both hit low in the dirt, and so I guesstimated how high to raise the vernier, and made an adjustment. Imagine my surprise when the next shot rang the 6" gong! I proceeded to fire a 20 shot string of 255 gr. .38-55's downrange and the old Ballard rang the gong 15 times out of 20! Not too shabby for me and iron sights, as these old eyes aren't the greatest any more!
Now I wondering if I might not be able to take a buck next month, if I can shoulder the Swiss style schuetzen buttplate with hunting jacket on? I'm confident my loads will do the job, but not sure about that buttplate. It worked OK at the range where I have plenty of time to shoot. Outdoors may be different! Got a month to decide!
