There was a time when the snow fell deep,
As shepherds watched their flocks of sheep,
On hillsides, long into the night,
Their small fires cast a rosy light.
There was a time when an angel hymn
Filled starlit skies over Bethlehem,
And moonlight fell on beams of wood,
And lit the spot where the stable stood.
There was a time when a mother lay
Her newborn Babe on a bed of hay,
With a tender smile and eyes that glowed,
And a tall man knelt, and the cattle lowed,
And God looked down, and the world grew still,
With the prophecy at last fulfilled,
And may be all, as church bells chime,
Give humble thanks there WAS a time.
