Idea for mounting scopes on Remingtons SPR 18 single shot rfile

What do u guys think about this idea for the short distance between the rings on the spr 18.....instead of having the scope turrets in between the rings, have both rings either in front or behind the turrets depending on the fit. I know of someone who has done this and it works out pretty well and you have a little more adjusting. does anyone know if it is necessary to have turrett between rings or is my idea ok?

I put BKL Offset scope rings on my spr18. They worked really good. :P

it would be easier to knock off the scope or damage anything. thats the reason i haven't bought one

Got my 308 SPR 18 today, very pleased with it, 1" groups at 50 yards with 66 year old eyes.........open sights

    Last fall I shot a nice 4pt. buck with my spr18 (.308) using open sights. It hit where I was aming. :P

just thinking you could some how have your gunsmith to make your own mount. if necessary he could grind part or all of the old mount off and drill and tap it. then have him create a base such as weaver style and make it hang over a little on the barrel and putting some sort of support under it like a small block of steel and weld it onto the base so its making slight contact to the barrel keeping it from excessive movement. then you will have more room to adjust and have way better mounts. heres something i came up with. bare with me its not perfect   http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee157/rockdeer1/lgsil_spr18.jpg

I have a 3x9 long eye relief scope mounted on my NEF just as you described. Both rings are on the rear portion of the scope and the front just kinda hangs in space. Has worked well so far, but looks really weird.

i don't like how they made the spr with the mounts. thats why i don't have one. i would try to make my own mounts as i said if i was desperate for the gun

I put the BLK mounts on my SPR 308, work just fine with a 3x9x40 scope...........

     Yes you can put them either way.I may switch them around the other way as that might be a little better. Will see how it works this coming deer season.I would like to see a picture of your rifle with its scope mount set up. :P
