Thinking of getting a new toy...
« on: August 31, 2006, 10:43:41 AM »
I have the itch for a new shotgun.  Im thinking of the H&R USH 12 ga for $250, or the Marlin 512 for $299 at my local shop.  The marlin is in very good conditin for a used gun, and the USH is new.  Both are with out a scope.  Im leaning toward the Marlin, as it has open sites and will be quicker for a follow up shot, but will be looking to scope it for max accuracy.

Im not too crazy for the savage 210 for $400+, it is alot of money, and I dont like the way it shoulders.

This will be for deer hunting.

Ideas, comments, experiances, inputs?

thanks,

KB either way I don't think you be disappointed.  I have a Marlin 512 and USH 20ga.  Both shoot under 2inches @ 100yds.  The weight is probably about the same.  My Marlin is very heavy has a wood stock been glass bedded and scoped weight is about 11-12 pounds.  The USH 20ga. I have weighs about 7.5 pounds but I have a survivor stock set, modified the foreend on a mill with a ball end mill to get to fit the bull barrel.  Been wanting a USH in 12 but haven't gotten one yet.  The Marlin shot very well after I bedded the action, have shot a deer with it @ 185 yds what ever you decide between the two I do not think you can go wrong. ;)
