Check with Bill Davis at Black Jack Hill ( http://blackjackhill.com/ ).  He cast me some .36 Maxiballs that turned out beautiful.  I don't know if he has .40s, but he might be able to get a mold made up.

It might be that a number of states require a .45cal minimum for big game, and nothing over 36 for small game...not sure...but the 'hole' has been there a long time...I have a .40 on it's way and am interested in a conicals for it as well.

I've started toying with the idea of trying a .36cal maxi (.360) in the .40 (.400) and double patching it with a large size .020" prelubed patch (or a double patch) to see if it'll have any accuracy...the maxi weighs 128grns where the little ball only weighs 87grns or so

The last time I corresponded with Bill, he indicated that he would obtain a mold for anything he didn't have, as long as there was a minimum purchase made.  I dont know if he can get custom molds made, though.

I've wondered about that too...if they are a true .400, they would be bore size, meaning they'd fit in the lands but not having any oversize "engraving" bands for the rifling to cut into and get a rifling grip on them, not sure if they'd pick up much rotation to get stabilized.

And being bore size, seems like it would be tough if not impossible to get a patch around them so there would be something to grab the grooves...but something along the lines of .380-.390 might work with a good patch...the only .380's I've seen have been jacketed bullets for the little .380 auto...maybe there are lead bullets for a .380 auto?

Mt Baldy has a .387" that may work, aren't cheap tho at $22 a hundred.
