Another one for a Mauser Gunsmith
« on: June 10, 2006, 01:11:16 PM »
Hi,
I recently lucked into a JC Higgins branded Model 50 FN Mauser. It is a pre-serial numbered model and appears to be unfired. Ordered a set of Weaver steel bases and find that the rear base with the standard .5 inch hole spacing does not fit the rear hole spacing of the receiver. The receiver is drilled at 7/16 inch between centers as best as I can measure. Anyone seen this before or have advice or ideas? I did read that Conetrol makes a 7/16" base to fit but I'm hoping to find a Weaver type base.
Thanks,
George

I have the Weaver S45 and S46 bases that are called for for this particular rifle. I got these from Brownells, will call them tomorrow.
Thanks,
George
