Browning High Wall Stock
« on: April 06, 2003, 12:32:14 PM »
I picked up a standard ( not TH or BPCR ) hi wall in 45-70 in an estate sale last year. The stock looks and feels like it's wood grained plastic, but I saw a letter about one in American Rifleman a few months ago, the answer said it may have an epoxy finish. Has anyone had any experience with refinishing these, or am I better off restocking it??

The finish looks like a polyurethane to me. If so it can be removed but it is tough. Takes persistence and a heavy duty stripper.

Brownell's sell a remover that I used to strip a couple of Rem. stock and it got them down to bare wood in a couple of hours.  It worked great
