Whats in a name?
« on: May 22, 2006, 10:45:33 PM »
Question: Is the Remington 750 a Woodmaster or a Woodsmaster? I have an article from a gun magazine and photographs show "Woodmaster" clearly stamped on the side(righthand?) of the receiver. The article spoke about the "Woodsmaster". Aname shouldn't make or break a rifle, but which is it...............If I had the bucks I get one. BC.

I think Remington has stuck a first name on the word MASTER on a number of different models.

I think Woodmaster has been a standard name for most Remington top end centerfire, semi-auto sportrifles.  The centerfire pumps are GameMasters, and I believe they made a bolt action .22 called the Field Master.  I can track the name Woodmaster back to the Remington M81 autoloader in my home library.  I have no information on the M8.

The 2006 Gun Buyers Annual #39, (Stanley Harris publisher, Harry Kane editor) has an article on the Remington Model 750 Woodsmaster. Page 12 of this magazine contains several photographs of the M750, one showing the left side of the receiver. Clearly photographed are the engraved words "Remington WOODMASTER" serial #D8000013. This rifle must be a prototype but I just wondered: if they screwed up the spelling what else could be screwed up?....................I still would like to own one though.......BC
