Anybody shoot a .260 Remington barrel?
« on: June 17, 2006, 07:11:25 AM »
Hi...was wondering if any else has a .260 Remington barrel and what you are using for handloads.

Ordered a 24" Heavy from Fox Ridge and was curious how others may like theirs. Hoping to take a doe with it this fall.

Good performance on deer?

Thanks! Joe

joe58,

got the same barrel, except mine is the 26" version, from the tc custom shop. honestly, i've been a little disappointed with mine so far, but i'm new to the encore. i've always shot bolts. i've noticed that the throat is on the shortside. can't seat the bullets out very far at all before they are in the rifling lands. i've only been shooting the speer 120g. hotcors and the 120g. nosler bts. velocities run around 2900fps with both, any faster and i start getting cratered primers. i have had 1" groups with imr4831, h414, rl19, but h4350 seems to have the most promise with accuracy and velocity. i've shot groups as small as 3/4" and as large as 2". on average my rifle shoots about 1.25-1.5" 3-shot groups. i'm still getting a flyer quite often, with the other 2 shots close together. i know that is probably a headspace issue. have no way to measure headspace yet, but i think i'm getting close to where i need my sizing die set. so far, i've put a little trigger spring in mine, floated the barrel with washers and put a stiffer locking bolt spring in. still debating whether to get a 1x hinge pin to tighten the wobble in my barrel/frame connection. heading back to the range as soon as all this rain stops down here on the coast.

Thanks for your reply.....did you try any factory ammo in it?

I was kind of wanting to shoot 140 gr in it if I can get away with it.
