.44 Vaquero
« on: March 25, 2003, 03:13:46 AM »
I recently bought a Ruger Vaquero in .44 rem mag and was wondering if there is any sights out there that are adjustable that I can put on it. Do you guys think it will require a smith to put adjustable sights on  or not, or is there any that will work on it.          Thanks for the input,            Henry 15

You can mount sights on your Vaquero, but in the long run, you'd be better off trading it in on a Blackhawk.  Vaqueros although plentiful, seem to be in pretty high demand due to the growth of Cowboy Action Shooting.  If you don't want to go that route and still want to add sights to your Vaq, try going to http://www.sixgunner.com

Check out the various sponsors like Hamilton Bowen to see who can do the mod for you.  I know it's been done, but you will get by a lot cheaper trading for the Blackhawk.

Actually, Ruger vaqueros are VERY desirable, and Cowboy Action Shooting is one of the main reasons why the Vaquero commands a premium even when well used! Let's face it, the Vaquero is a very well made revolver. I have several friends who use them for medium to large game hunting, and they use the factory fixed sights. An example of how desirable they are is this: a local gun shop had two that were 75-80 per cent and they sold them for $300 each. They sold quickly, and the buyer is a very happy man.  :)

Thanks for the info guys, I'm making new grips for it but I think that I'll do OK without the adjustable sights.  Thanks Again, Henry   15
