I worked up a bunch of test loads for my CZ 527, Hornet. I used IMR 4227 and IMR4198 and WC820. I didn't have any load data for the WC820 so I used AA9 and worked up very slowly. The WC820 is a medium burn powder that works well in hand cannons, 44 mag and 45 Colt.

I was really impressed with the results for both the 40 and 45 grain bullets. I used both the Speer and Sierra spitzers. The results were close to that of 296, and H110. Group sizes were unbelieveable. The velocities were higher then the IMR powders, but that was not what I was looking for. I wanted accuracy first, the speed came with it.

Is this powder one of the surplus ones I see advertised? I don't recognize the number. Thanks.

Yes. It is the powder that is used in the .30 carbine. I got some reload data from Hodgdon. They said that H108 is the commercial version of it. I normally use it for my handcannons and get great results.

By the way, it is a very good powder and is well worth the small price!

Larry, thanks for the response, I have a Hornet I haven't shot in years, maybe this is a good reason to dust it off. By "handcannons" are you talking about big bottleneck stuff like JDJ cartridges? I have a .475 Linebaugh, and a shorty 50-70 Contender. Any chance it would work in either of them? Thanks.

I do have a .375 JDJ, but no I load up all my hunting loads for my .44 mag and .45 Colt Ruger SBH. I get great velocity and accuracy with this powder. And plenty of meat for the table. :wink:

I am sorry I missed this question. Yes to the .475 and no to the .50-70. The .50-70 is a rifle cartridge and this powder would not work, too hot. :wink:
