Which Boresighter?

I've always either borrowed one or just started close to the target. It's finally time to get one. It also has to work in stainless barrels. Are the lasers worth the extra money?

Personally, I don't think any of them work that great.  I'm real fussy about sticking things in my barrels and since none work really that good I've started using the Leupold magnetic ones.  They work okay.  As good as any, I guess.  In reality, I can get closer by sighting down the bores and aligning the scope.  But that wouldn't work on some actions, of course.

One of the best uses I've found for the bore sighters is to check a scope out.  You can easily tell if it's adjusting as it should by watching through a bore sighter as you crank the knobs.

By the way, the magnetic ones work on stainless barrels, too.

OK, I have a Bushnell bore sighter. The arbors are chrome plated with a copper wire to hold it tight in the bore. I have yet to see any one scratch a bore.
I can normally get it very close to being perfect at 40 yards. my biggest mistakes put me way right of the paper but that is my flat.
Here is what I have found using mine:
the Bushnell works great with high power scopes but not so well with low power handgun scopes and for iron sights forget about using it. I am trying to save up the money for a laser bore sighter they all have a rubber ring to keep it centered  and from toughing the bore. the laser will be much better for low power scopes and even open sights. the down side you have to put a target on the wall.

I use a Leupold magnetic one. It always gets me on paper which is what it was intended for.

People think a bore sight replaces going to the range and doing a proper sight it.  I don't care how good a bore sight is, you need to shot your gun to make adjustments and make sure it is on.
