I posed this question on another site too and hopefully someone will have some knowledge of this rifle. Thanks.

A friend just bought a tip up, single shot rifle marked as below:

W WURFFLEIN
PHILAD'A PA U S A
PATENTED JUNE 24th 1884

This rifle looks to be a 22 cal, heavy octagon barrel and with a tang rear sight. The barrel has a worn blued appearance, a nickeled receiver and crescent butt plate, the bore looked dirty but the rifling looks good. It has a four digit serial no.

Anybody know what he has?

made rifles and othr guns in Phila. Many were break open like the NEF handi rifles, $ Buffalo Classic. DeHaas, has a chapter on Wurfleins in one of his Single shot books.

I have a Wurflein zimmerstutzen with double set triggers. It shoots a 28 caliber ball with a perc. cap. I once saw a few Wurflein guns listed in a catalogue reprint. Can't tell you much more.
