Hogue grips for a Ruger SBH
« on: May 24, 2006, 03:05:58 PM »
Has anyone had any experience with this type of Hogue grip on a Ruger SBH?  I am considering the grips pictured at the link below.  The traditionalist in me says no to these, but the logical side of me says yes; especially when I start thinking of 300 grainers in 44 mag.  Your input would be appreciated. :D

Thanks,
Chuck :cb1:

I have the Hogue Monogrip in soft rubber on my Blackhawk .41 mag anmy Ruger GP 100. Look to be the same size and configuration as the Rosewood you are looking at. Amazing how much better control they give on both of mine. Those look great.

I think I have a spare set of those grips.  PM me and let me know if you need them.

Well, I went ahead and ordered the Hogue grips in rosewood with the grip cap.  Unfortunately they were backordered - 7 WEEKS!
Oh well, at least my name is on the list.  Thanks for the input.  I'll post a pick once I have them and the SBH has made its return from Magna-port.

I've used the rubber Hogues on all my double-action Rugers over the years. So when I got my first single-action Ruger, a 4 5/8" SBH w/rounded trigger guard, I slapped a set on it too. I liked them okay but the rubber grips just didn't feel or look right to me on the single-action frame.

A couple of months back I saw a set of the Hogues in Goncalo wood on sale at Midway so I ordered them. I really like the way they look and fit on my SBH. I have a pretty big paw and I need it on these grips. I don't know if my set is atypical, but it is noticeably thicker through the middle than my rubber Hogues were. I'm happy with them though. They fill my hand well and still roll a bit with recoil due to the smooth wood surface. I'll be keeping them.

I was either going to have them do the Predator conversion on it or go through the list of services and select the following:

Cut the barrel to 5.5"
Install a free-spin pawl
magna-port the barrel
smooth up the action
polish trigger and hammer
install the red insert on the fron sight - no C-more sight

I had the Hogue rubber grips on my SBH, but switched to their camo laminate with grip cap, which I like much better.  FYI, Hogue also has an auction site where they sell their overstocks/seconds as hogueauction.com.  Stock is pretty low right now, but I have picked up some real deals on grips there.

Well, the Hogue grips finally came in.  They give my SBH a much different feel, but those full magnum loads are a lot more manageable.  I started with some 44 specials and I swear it felt like a 22!
