Anybody shooting one of these yet ? What kind of groups is it capable of etc.?

It sounds to me like some of the 450 gr. bullets at 900 to 1000 fps would not be all that bad on the shooter but would be REALLY bad on on whatever was on the recieving end.

I like big bore revolvers, but the big heavy recoiling wrist wreckers are just not for me. One might say "why not just get a 50BMG handgun and be done with it?"

I shoot my 475 with 420 grainers at 1,000 fps every couple of days and 40 or so rounds when I do. With these light loads I can easily one hand it and get great groups. I never feel any problems with my wrists. I believe the 500 would be a similar round if one were to load it down a bit. Big bores are great fun to shoot and the more you practice with them the better you will be prepared ofr hunting when the time comes. The 500 appears to be a fantastic round. I gave it serious consideration, but could not justify it with the 475 already here. If the 475 will not get it done I do not think the 500 will solve the problem. The Big Bore FA are great shooters and tame recoil very well.

I see Freedom arms has some loads as low as 5-600 fps. sounds interesting.

I spent some quality time with a couple of them last week ... a 4" round butted gun, and a 6" field grade, and a whole bunch of Grizzly Ctg. ammunition. Darn it, I forgot the bullet weights, but I think the low-end load was a 370 grain bullet at 950 fps ... also shot a good bit of medium-range loads, and a few of the heaviest.

That low-end load is pretty darned interesting.

I am now giving serious thought to a 4" 500 WE ... boy, that made for a lightweight, serious packin' pistol. Also giving serious thought to a good 83-22 instead, as it seems like all I am doing now is buying box after box of bullets, and casting just ain't in the cards right now.

I only have one F/A, a 4 3/4" .475. I do know that basically if F/A makes it, it will shoot. I don't mean shoot OK, I mean really shoot. Mine will do well under 1" at 50 yds. Performance wise, The 500 WE looks only slightly hotter than a 500 Linebaugh, meaning a 450 grainer at about 1300 fps. This is obviously alot of power, but I still can't justify one yet, with my .475 throwing 440 grainers at 1350.

I shot the mid range load and a full on load some a couple of weeks ago. With the mid range load it was pretty nice. With the full on load it was pretty rude. All in all I came away very impressed. If you need alot of power in a reasonably portable package there it is.
