Thank you RamHunter. I was on another forum called "African Hunter" and there was a thread from a hunter that used the VXIII 1.5x5. He used the Leupold Q/R rings and apparently crushed the front optics. They advised him to use the extended rings. I have spoken to Gary Turner at Talley and he advised that to get the extra distance, I can reverse the base to get more tube room, or use an extended base. I had a 2.5x8 on and used the extended base. According to Leupold, the 1.5x5 has another 1/2" of tube length, allowing me to use the standard base. I will mount the scope as far forward as possible due to eye releif. The extended base protruded over onto the cartridge port opening bay about 1/16". The standard base would be clear of the opening, giving a cleaner look. I will look for the rings to be the low height. I like being closer to the stock when it is possible. Thanks again, Curly
