Most, if they are honest and do not champion personal favorites as I might concerning Sigs or STI, will say that SA has EARNED high marks. I know not of the Champion but of SA most all will speak kindly.

Mine is the GI Spec. version and I have been very pleased with it, other than the very small sights. Mine functions flawlessly with factory and Mil. Surplus mags. Fails to hold the slide back on Chip McCormick about half the time. Fun gun to shoot and not too big to carry at times.

I had one of the earlier ones and it was probably the worse 1911 ive owned. Ive had a few good springfields since but that champion i had was a pos! I dont think i got through to many mags without a malfuntion of some kind and it was inaccurate to boot. To be honest i  had a kimber commander that wasnt much better. If i were to buy one for a ccw gun id definatly start with a loaded model. The ejection ports are opened up more and there a little more polished so you have a better chance of getting a good one. Dont take my statements here to mean that the champion is no good. One bad apple!! I carry commander sized 1911s more then any gun and they can be easily consealed and a good one is as accurate and reliable as a 5 inch gun. Personaly my recomendation for someone that doesnt like to fool around and tune guns is to buy something on the lines of an sti or a kimber cdp that is probably going to be 100 percent reliable right out of the box. Your going to pay more but if your depending on it for your life whats a few bucks. Cut corners on a hunting gun that when it fails your not going to get killed.

My Springfield 45 is the Mil-Spec and that gun is accurate. I know thats not what you are looking for even tho it comes in Stainless but its not loaded.

I bought my SA Loaded Champion new a year ago. It has been a solid performer and have had no regrets. I just bought a Kimber Ultra Carry II this week and it has also been a great performer. I may have been lucky or the few lemons that are sold, the purchaser yells the loudest giving a particular model or manufacturer a bad rap.
